I love ballet

Graphite, charcoal, gel pen, colored pencil, acrylic on paper
2020

When I was 51, I started adult ballet at Tulsa Ballet. I promptly fell in love. Other than a brief tap class, I did not dance formally as a child. What I did do was play football: wide receiver. There is something similar in my body about the two, though I was much better at catching a football than I am at a pirouette. This similarity has a lot to do with joy, practice, and the movement I capture in these paintings about ballet. Paintings that remind me I love football.
